A extended cruise through the Australian Coast has been cancelled days after the fatal incident of an older lady who was abandoned by the vessel on a remote tropical isle.

The passenger had been hiking on Lizard Island with shipmates from the vessel, but parted ways from the group for a pause. The liner departed without her and came back after some time after the ship staff discovered the woman was not present.

An extensive rescue mission discovered her body the following day.

Officials are looking into the incident, alongside law enforcement and the medical examiner.

Chief Executive of the shipping company stated that travelers and personnel on the ship were informed that the remainder of the voyage had been terminated due to the "tragic passing and prior mechanical issues".

Through an announcement, he further stated that travelers would be given a full refund, and said the company was working "to organize the homeward trips of the passengers via specially arranged planes".

Regulatory bodies also issued an revised statement, and said they had "issued a notice to the Commander" prohibiting any further travelers from getting on the liner.

The spokesperson said that they would inspect the vessel in the port city upon its return.

Chronology of Incidents

The vessel originally sailed from Cairns on 24 October, and was just two days into the voyage at the time of the elderly woman's passing. The remote island was the initial destination on the itinerary.

Travelers on the vessel - who typically pay tens of thousands of money to join the expedition - were ferried there for a day trip with the option of hiking or underwater exploration.

Relatives Reaction

The child of the deceased woman said that her relatives was "shocked and distressed that the liner left the location after an organised tour without my parent".

In her statement, she characterized her parent as an "active 80-year-old" who was a member of a bushwalking organization.

"From the little information we have been informed, it seems that there was a breakdown of responsibility and basic judgment," she mentioned.

She added that she hoped the investigation would be able to identify what "the organization should have done that might have preserved Her existence".

"According to reports from the authorities that it was a exceptionally warm period, and mother took sick on the mountain ascent," she revealed.

"She was asked her to return, unescorted. Then the boat left, reportedly without performing a passenger count.

"At a certain moment in that sequence, or not long after, mother passed away, alone."

Organization Reaction

In a statement, the Head affirmed that the operator was "cooperating fully with investigators to assist their investigation".

He mentioned that the organization was "very regretful that this has happened" and had offered its full support to the loved ones.

The ship caters for up to 120 travelers with nearly fifty personnel, according to official details. It was purpose-built to access isolated locations of Australia's shoreline and is outfitted with "auxiliary vessels" - minor craft used to take passengers on shore trips.
