Area Police
Around 50 cars have been covered with what appears to be blood from a person in the German municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Vehicles, building surfaces and mailboxes were vandalized, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they announced in a statement.
Officers say they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday, when a individual discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a reddish substance.
The substance had been applied in the form of a swastika, they reported.
Police then located many other smeared vehicles and house walls in the nearby vicinity.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation banning the public display of Nazi-era symbols.
Police state initial examinations suggest the substance was likely human bodily fluid.
"Currently there is no clue as to its origin; investigators are currently not aware of any physical harm in relation with the event," they added.
Municipal representatives announced they were trying "to solve the mystery" and have asked to the community for information.
An important representative said the attack rendered him without words and required to be resolved quickly.
"This incident affects the core of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the extremist violent incident in 2020," he posted on a platform, mentioning the death of nine individuals by a gunman aiming at people of migrant background in 2020.
